17. EXPECTATION AND THE LOWER SELF EGO PARTS
The 12 parts of the Lower Self would not exist without expectation - the Mind of Anti-buddha - and would quickly cease to exist if you removed ALL expectation from the four levels of your mind. Below is a summary of how expectation reinforces the illusion of separation for each of the 12 parts of the Lower Self Ego.
The Proud-Hurt Part
The Proud-Hurt Part "expects" to be treated by ALL others as "special" and "superior". This was the original part of the Lower Self to be created when the soul "believed" it was superior to its spiritual teacher and to other souls. In order to "maintain" its illusion that it is superior and separate to all other souls - it "expects" to be treated like a king and elevated above all others.
EXERCISE: In what way does your Proud-Hurt Part expect to be treated by others as "special" and "superior"?
The Competitive-Challenging Part
The Competitive-Challenging Part "expects" others to acknowledge its "superiority" and "specialness" through competition and challenge. This part of the Lower Self was created when the soul "believed" it was superior to others and its teacher and needed a way to "prove" its superiority and specialness to others and to itself through competition and challenge. In order to "maintain" its illusion that it is superior and special when compared to other souls - it has to continually engage in competition and challenge.
EXERCISE: In what way does your Competitive-Challenging Part expect to be acknowledged as "special" and "superior" through competition and challenge?
The Scared-Guilty Part
The Scared-Guilty Part "expects" to be "punished" and "outcast" by others. This part of the Lower Self was created when the soul believed it had made a terrible mistake and would be forever punished and outcast by God for "separating" itself from its spiritual teacher. In order to "maintain" its illusion that it is "bad" and "outcast" and that it should forever be "punished" by God - it continually feels "bad" and "guilty" for its original poor choice and "lives in fear" of the consequences of making further poor choices.
EXERCISE: In what way does your Scared-Guilty Part expect to be "punished" and "outcast" and use "fear", "guilt" and "not being good enough" to limit you?
The Deceptive-Shadow Part
The Deceptive-Shadow Part "expects" to be "condemned" for being truthful. This part of the Lower Self was created when the soul believed it had made a terrible mistake and would be forever condemned by God. It felt it needed to "hide the truth" of what it had done from God to avoid condemnation. In order to "maintain" its illusion that it will be "condemned" if it reveals the "truth", it hides the truth and lies and manipulates in the shadows.
EXERCISE: In what way does your Deceptive-Shadow Part expect to be "condemned" for being honest and use "deception" to avoid condemnation?
The Self-Doubting Part
The Self-Doubting Part "expects" to "fail" and "make mistakes". This part of the Lower Self was created when the soul could no longer "trust" itself to make the right choices after its poor choice to separate itself from its spiritual teacher. In order to "maintain" its illusion that it cannot be "trusted" to make the right choices, it continually doubt its ability to make beneficial choices in life.
EXERCISE: In what way does your Self-Doubting Part expect to "fail" and "make mistakes" and use "self-doubt" to limit your life?
The Judgmental-Critical Part
The Judgmental-Critical Part "expects" to be "criticized" and "judged". This part of the Lower Self was created when the soul crticized and judged itself harshly for separating itself from its spiritual teacher - because it "imagined" God and its teacher where judging it harshly for its poor choice. In order to "maintain" its illusion it will be "criticized" and "judged" for making poor choices, it continually criticizes and judges itself to avoid making further poor choices that could be judged. It also criticizes and judges others to "discredit" them for judging and criticizing it.
EXERCISE: In what way does your Judgmental-Critical Part expect to be "criticized" and "judged" by others and how does it criticize you and others?
The Angry-Hateful Part
The Angry-Hateful Part "expects" itself to be "perfect", others to be "perfect" and the world to be "perfect". This part of the Lower Self was created when the soul became angry with God for creating imperfect conditions that allowed it to be tempted to separate itself from its spiritual teacher. It became angry with itself for failing this temptation. In order to "maintain" its illusion that "imperfection" is an error in God's design, it continually becomes angry with itself for making "imperfect" choices, angry at others who do the same, and angry at God for all the "imperfect" conditions that befall it during its life.
EXERCISE: In what way does your Angry-Hateful Part expect itself, others and life to be "perfect" and how does it use anger and hate to achieve perfection?
The Aggressive-Controlling Part
The Aggressive-Controlling Part "expects" to avoid "pain", "suffering", "humiliation" and "hurt". This part of the Lower Self was created after the soul became angry with God for creating imperfect conditions that include pain and suffering. It felt it needed to assume "absolute control" over the soul for its own protection. In order to "maintain" its illusion that it can: a] avoid pain and suffering, b] avoid repaying karma that is often painful, and c] avoid spiritual testing with negative people that is often humiliating and hurtful, it continually has to assume "absolute control" over the soul, other souls and its environment.
EXERCISE: In what way does your Aggressive-Controlling Part expect to avoid "pain", "suffering", "humiliation" and "hurt" and how does it avoid accepting responsibility for karma returned as negative experiences?
The Lonely-Sad-Depressed Part
The Lonely-Sad-Depressed Part "expects" to be "lonely", "depressed", "abandoned" and "unloved". This part of the Lower Self was created when the soul became "lost in separation" from its spiritual teacher and its Higher Self and began to feel lonely, sad, depressed, abandoned and unloved. In order to "maintain" its illusion that "it is all alone" and "unloved" - it continually has to remind itself that it is all alone, unloved and abandoned.
EXERCISE: In what way does your Lonely-Sad-Depressed Part expect it will always be "alone", "unloved" and "abandoned"?
The Skeptical-Not Trusting Part
The Skeptical-Not Trusting Part "expects" others to "let it down". This part of the Lower Self was created when the soul separated itself from its spiritual teacher and "believed" God had abandoned it and punished it. It felt it could not "trust" in God or anyone to love it unconditionally. In order to "maintain" its illusion that others will always "let it down" - it continually has to mistrust the love and integrity of others. It continually doubts that anyone could love it or like it or want it or accept it.

The Unfulfilled-Bored Part
The Unfulfilled-Bored Part "expects" life to be "boring" and "empty". This part of the Lower Self was created when the soul separated itself from its "source of love" - its Higher Self, after separating from its spiritual teacher. A soul only feels fulfilled when it is connected to its Higher Self, so the separation left the soul feeling "unfulfilled", "empty inside" and "bored". In order to "maintain" its illusion that life is "boring" and "empty" - it continually has to reaffirm that life is boring and empty and unfulfilling and hopeless.
EXERCISE: In what way does your Unfulfilled-Bored Part expect life to be "boring" and "empty"?
The Selfish-Self Centered Part
The Selfish-Self Centered Part "expects" life to "compensate" it. This part of the Lower Self was created when the soul became angry and felt it deserved compensation for losing its "source of love" to its Higher Self. It feels the world and God owes it for the way it feels and it will use and take what it can get to fill up the emptiness inside. In order to "maintain" its illusion that the world "owes it" - it continually has to "feed" its addiction to external stimuli and put its own needs first.
